Overview

You can create a custom joint in Calculate for heat exchangers or special joint types, by using the Custom joint feature in Calculate and populating the fields in the form. Ensure all numerical fields are filled with decimal values if needed, and the units will align with your user preferences.

You can also upload custom joints if you require to create multiple joints, download the provided template, populate it with your data, and upload the file. Ensure all numerical fields are filled with decimal values if needed, and the units will align with your user preferences. You will receive an email notification regarding the creation status of the joint, this will include any errors that occurred during the upload.

You can also view and edit custom joint information.

Create Custom Joint

To create a new custom joint in Calculate:

  1. Open joints.
  2. Using the table context menu, select Create New Joint.
  3. Select Custom Joint and click the next button.
  4. Populate the fields you require in the Joint specification and click the next button.
  5. Populate the fields you require in the Joint information and click the next button to save the joint.
  6. The joint will be created and be available in the joint view.

Note - only numerical values must be entered into numerical fields. Fractions can be entered using decimals; for example, 1.25 shall be used for 1 1/4. Units will be taken from your User Preferences\Units in Calculate. Imperial or metric bolt size shall be taken from your User Preferences\Core\Bolt Size in Calculate.

Upload Custom Joints

To upload custom joints:

  1. Open joints.
  2. Using the table context menu, select Upload Joints.
  3. You can download a template using the Download link.
  4. Populate the csv file with your data.
  5. Click on the upload a file button, navigate to your saved upload file, and select.
  6. Then click on the create button to create the joint.
  7. The user will receive an email to advise if the joint has been created or if there was an issue with the joint.

Note - only numerical values must be entered into numerical fields. Fractions can be entered using decimals; for example, 1.25 shall be used for 1 1/4. Units will be taken from your User Preferences\Units in Calculate. Imperial or metric bolt size shall be taken from your User Preferences\Core\Bolt Size in Calculate.

View Custom Joint Information

To view the custom joint information:

  1. Open joints.
  2. Find the joint you want to view the information of, using the row context menu select the option Joint Information.

Edit a Custom Joint

To edit a custom joint:

  1. Open joints.
  2. Find the joint you want to edit, using the row context menu select the option Edit Joint.
  3. Update the joint and when you press next on the Joint information this will save the joint.
