Overview
An asset could be a refinery, FPSO, oil platform, building or other heavy asset or plant which is to be managed using Operate.
The asset is fundamental in configuring the correct data structures in Operate.
Along with basic attributes such as description, location and ownership information, the asset is where the following configuration is made:
- Tag (and Disciplines) Types & attributes
- Pack Types, pack attributes & workflows
- Phase Types & attributes
- Tag views
- Pack views
- Phase views
- Workflow triggers
- 3D models
Viewing an Asset
To view the details of an asset:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view, click the name of the asset in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Creating a New Asset
To create a new asset:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- From the table context menu, click Create.
- Complete the required fields marked with *.
Uploading Assets
To upload assets
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- From the table context menu, click Upload.
- You can download a template using the link.
- Populate the Name field as a minimum.
- Use the upload a file to navigate to your csv file and upload.
- Click Save.
- This process will create a task in the uploads section where you can monitor the progress of your upload. Please read the uploads article https://help.asset55.io/en_GB/operate/uploads for a more detailed description of how this works.
Editing an Asset
To edit the details of an asset:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit, go to the context menu, and click Edit.
Exporting Assets
To export the Assets table as a CSV file:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- From the table context menu, click Export.
- Select a filename and location.
- You will now have a csv file with all the tag groups output to the location you selected.
Tag Types
Tag Types is the area of an asset where Disciplines and Tag Types are managed. In Operate, we call this the Tag Taxonomy, before you continue, please read the Tag taxonomy article for more detailed description of how this works.
Within Manage Tag Types, you can:
- Create new combinations of Disciplines and Tag Types.
- Bulk upload Disciplines, Tag Types and Attributes.
- Export Disciplines & Tag Types.
- Manage Tag Type attributes.
View Disciplines & Tag Types
To view disciplines and tag types:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag types.
- Find the discipline or tag type you want to view disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click View.
Edit Disciplines & Tag Types
To edit disciplines and tag types:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag types.
- Find the discipline or tag type you want to edit disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Edit.
Create Disciplines & Tag Types
To create a new discipline and tag type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a new discipline and tag type, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the discipline or tag type you want to create disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Create.
- Complete the Discipline and Tag type fields and save.
Duplicate Disciplines & Tag Types
To duplicate a discipline and tag type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to duplicate disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu and click Manage tag types.
- Find the discipline or tag type you want to duplicate disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu and click Duplicate asset tag types.
- Update the Discipline and Tag type fields and save.
Upload Disciplines & Tag Types
To upload discipline and tag type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to upload new records, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- From the table context menu, click Upload.
- You can download a template by clicking the link to download a template.
- Complete the csv template Discipline and Tag type fields as a minimum.
- Click the upload a file option and navigate to you saved csv file and select the file.
- This process will create a task in the uploads section where you can monitor the progress of your upload. Please read the uploads article https://help.asset55.io/en_GB/operate/uploads for a more detailed description of how this works.
Export Disciplines & Tag Types
To export disciplines and tag types:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to export disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- From the table context menu, click Export.
- Select a filename and location.
- You will now have a csv file with all the disciplines and tag types output to the location you selected..
Manage Tag Type Groups
Within Operate you can add the tag types to groups.
View Tag Groups
To view tag groups:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to view tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to view, click on the name of the tag group in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Create Tag Groups
To create a tag group:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a tag group go to the context menu and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to create a tag group, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- From the table context menu, click Create.
- Give the group a name and save.
Edit Tag Groups
To edit tag groups:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to edit tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to edit, click on the name of the tag group in the table or go to the context menu and click Edit.
Export Tag Groups

- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to export tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to export tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- From the table context menu, click Export.

Reorder Tag Groups
To reorder the tag groups:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to reorder tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to reorder tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- From the table context menu, click Reorder.
- You can drag any of the items for each group where there is not a padlock icon indicating the order is locked.
Archive Tag Groups
To archive a tag group
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to archive a tag group, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to archive a tag group, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to archive, go to the context menu, and click Archive.
View Archived Tag Groups
To view archived tag groups:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to view archived tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
Restore an Archived Tag Group
To restore a previously archived tag group:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to view archived tag groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
- Find the tag group you want to restore, go to the context menu, and click Unarchive.
Hide Archived Tag Groups
To hide archived tag groups:
- When viewing tag groups.
- From the table context menu, click Hide archived.
Tag Group Attributes
Within tag groups you can assign different attributes.
View Tag Group Attributes
To view tag group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to view tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to view tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- Find the tag group attribute you want to view, click on the attribute name of the tag group in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Create Tag Group Attributes
To create tag group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to create a tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to create a tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- From the table context menu, click View Create.
- Select an attribute name from the current setup attributes or create a new attribute, update the name, and select a data type, add to any views from the dropdown list and save.
- Use the sliders to select the options for Required and then select if the attribute is tag or equipment and save.
Edit Tag Group Attributes
To edit tag group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to edit tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to edit tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- Find the tag group attribute you want to edit, go to the context menu, and click Edit.
N.B. You cannot edit the attributes Tag ID. Discipline and Tag type
Export Tag Group Attributes
To export tag group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to export tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to export tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to export tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- From the table context menu, click Export.
- Select a filename and location.
- You will now have a csv file with all the tag groups output to the location you selected..
Archive Tag Group Attributes
To archive a tag group attribute
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to archive a tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to archive a tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to export tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- Find the tag group you want to archive a tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Archive.
View Archived Tag Group Attributes
To view archived tag group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to view archived tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to view archived tag group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
Restore an Archived Tag Group Attribute
To restore a previously archived tag group attribute:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to restore an archived tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag Types.
- Find the tag type you want to restore an archived tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag type groups.
- Find the tag group you want to restore an archived tag group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag type group attributes.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
- Find the tag group attribute you want to restore, go to the context menu, and click Unarchive.
Hide Archived Tag Group attributes
To hide archived tag group attributes:
- When viewing tag group attributes.
- From the table context menu, click Hide archived.
Reorder Tag Type Groups and Attributes
To reorder tag type groups and attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to reorder tag type group and attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage tag types.
- Find the tag type group and attribute you want to reorder tag type groups and attributes, go to the context menu, and click Reorder.
- You can drag any of the items for each group where there is not a padlock icon indicating the order is locked.
Archiving Disciplines & Tag Types
To archive a discipline & tag type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to archive disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag types.
- Find the discipline or tag type you want to archive, go to the context menu, and click Archive.
View Archived Disciplines & Tag Types
To view archived disciplines & tag types:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag types.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
Restore an Archived Discipline & Tag Type
To restore an archived discipline & tag type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to restore archived disciplines and tag types, go to the context menu, and click Manage Tag types.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
- Find the discipline or tag type you want to archive, go to the context menu, and click Unarchive.
Hide Archived Disciplines & Tag Types
To hide archived disciplines & tag types:
- When viewing archived disciplines & tag types.
- From the table context menu, click Hide archived.
Manage Asset Attributes
Viewing Asset Attributes
To view the details of an asset attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- Find the attribute you want to view , click the name of the attribute in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Creating a New Asset Attribute
To create a new asset attribute:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a new attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- From the table context menu, click Create.
- Select a type from the dropdown list.
- Populate the name and select an option for the data type in the dropdown list, you can also add the attribute to any existing views using the dropdown list and save.
Uploading Asset Attributes
To upload asset attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to upload new attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- From the table context menu, click Upload attributes.
- You can download a template using the link.
- Populate the attribute name, attribute type and the data type fields and save the file.

- Click Save.

Manage Attribute Values
You can manage the attribute values for a lookup data type by using a code and a value.
Create Asset Attribute Values
To create an attribute value:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create an attribute value, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- Find the lookup attribute you want to create an attribute value, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attribute values.
- Enter a code, value and colour and save.
Edit Asset Attribute Values
To edit attribute values:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit an attribute value, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- Find the lookup attribute value you want to edit, click the name of the attribute value in the table or go to the context menu and click Edit.

To archive an asset attribute value
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to archive an asset attribute value, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- Find the lookup attribute value you want to archive , go to the context menu, and click Archive.
View Archived Asset Attribute Values
To view archived asset attribute values
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived asset attribute values, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
Restore an Asset Attribute Value
To restore a previously archived asset attribute value:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived asset attribute values, go to the context menu, and click Manage asset attributes.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
- Find the lookup attribute value you want to restore, go to the context menu, and click Unarchive.
Hide Archived Asset Attribute Values

To view the details of an asset pack type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view pack types, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack types.
- Find the pack type you want to view , click the name of the pack type in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Creating a New Asset Pack Type
To create a new asset attribute pack type:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a new pack type, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack types.
- From the table context menu, click Create.
- Populate the name and save.

- You can drag any of the attributes for each group where there is not a padlock icon indicating the order is locked.

Manage Asset Pack Type Groups
You can create groups for pack types where you can the assign attributes to the group.
View Asset Pack Type Groups
To view asset pack type groups: 1. From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets. 2. Find the asset you want to view asset pack type groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack types. 3. Find the asset pack type you want to view asset pack type groups, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack type groups. 4. Find the asset pack type group you want to view , click the name of the pack type group in the table or go to the context menu and click View.

Hide Archived Asset Pack Type Groups
To hide archived asset pack type groups:
- When viewing asset pack type groups.
- From the table context menu, click Hide archived.
Manage Asset Pack Type Groups Attributes
You can assign attributes to the asset pack type groups.
View Asset Pack Type Group Attributes
To view asset pack type group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to view asset pack type group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack types.
- Find the asset pack type you want to view asset pack type group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack type groups.
- Find the asset pack type group you want to view asset pack type group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack type group attributes.
- Find the asset pack type group attribute you want to view , click the name of the asset pack type group attribute in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Create Asset Pack Type Group Attributes
To create asset pack type group attributes:
- From the Home Screen, go to the cog icon and click Manage assets.
- Find the asset you want to create asset pack type group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack types.
- Find the asset pack type you want to create asset pack type group attribute, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack type groups.
- Find the asset pack type group you want to create asset pack type group attributes, go to the context menu, and click Manage pack type group attributes.

- Select an attribute name from the current setup attributes or create a new attribute, update the name, and select a data type, add to any views from the dropdown list and save.

Manage Views
Views are a powerful construct in Operate and allow the user to filter and pivot, what can be displayed on the screen.
Within assets you can change the views for the sections below: * Manage tag views * Manage packs views * Manage phases views
Creating Views
To create a view:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a view, go to the context menu, and click the manage view type option you want to create a new view (tag, pack, phase).
- From the table context menu, click Create.
- Complete the form, Name and Column fields as a minimum.
- You can add Facetable columns to the view.
- You can also add filters to the view by clicking the add filter option, select which column to filter and add a value.
Edit Views
To edit a view:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit a view, go to the context menu, and click the view type option you want to edit (tag, pack, phase).
- Find the view you want to edit, go to the context menu, and click Edit.
Archiving a View
To archive a view:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to archive a view, go to the context menu, and click the view type option you want to archive a view (tag, pack, phase).
- Find the view you want to archive, go to the context menu, and click Archive.
View Archived Views
To view archived views:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived views, go to the context menu, and click the view type option you want to view archived views (tag, pack, phase).
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
Restore an Archived View
To restore a previously archived view:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to restore an archived view, go to the context menu, and click the view type option you want to restore an archived view (tag, pack, phase).
- From the table context menu, click View archived.
- Find the view you want to restore, go to the context menu, and click Unarchive.
Hide Archived Views
To hide archived views:
- When viewing archived views.
- From the table context menu, click Hide archived.
3D Models
You can visualise your assets in Operate in the tags and packs sections of Operate. The models are managed in Assets. This section will go through the manage models’ options.
Create a Model
To create a new model:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to create a 3D model, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- From the table context menu, click Create.
- Complete the required fields marked with *.
View 3D Models
To view the 3D models:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to view a 3D models, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- Find the model you want to view, click on the name of the model in the table or go to the context menu and click View.
Edit a 3D Model
To edit a 3D model:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to edit a 3D model, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- Find the model you want to edit, go to the context menu, and click Edit.
Export 3D Models
To export 3D models to a csv file:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to export 3D models, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- From the table context menu, click Export.
- Select a filename and location.
- You will now have a csv file with all the tag groups output to the location you selected.
Upload Tag Nodes to a 3D Model
To upload tag nodes to a 3d model:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to upload tag nodes, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- Find the model you want to upload tag nodes, go to the context menu, and click Upload tag nodes.
- You can download a template using the link.
- Populate the Tag ID and Node ids fields.
- Use the upload a file to navigate to your csv file and upload.
- Click Upload a file, find the file on your computer to upload.
- Click Save.

Archiving a 3D Model
To archive a model:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to archive a 3D model, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- Select the model you want to archive, go to the context menu, and click Archive.
View Archived 3D Models
To view archived models:
- From the Home Screen, go to Assets.
- Find the asset you want to view archived models, go to the context menu, and click Manage models.
- From the table context menu, click View archived.

To restore a previously archived model:
